In a crucial match in the Champions Hockey League, Re-Plast Unia Oświęcim secured a significant 4-1 victory over the German team, Straubing Tigers, on their home ice. The win came during the fifth game of the group stage, boosting the Polish team’s position in the competition.
Unia took the lead in the 11th minute when Carl Ackered, after an initial blocked shot, managed to score on a rebound. Although Unia had another goal disallowed in the 18th minute due to a high stick, they maintained control of the game.
Straubing briefly equalized early in the second period, but Krystian Dziubiński, Unia’s top scorer in the Champions League, restored the lead in the 30th minute. Daniel Olsson Trkulja extended the advantage to 3-1 just before the end of the second period during a power play.
Despite Straubing’s efforts in the final period, they couldn’t close the gap, and Henry Karjalainen sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the last moments of the game.
