Poland’s wood industry urgently seeks a meeting with Finance Minister Domański, as the sector faces significant challenges threatening the economy.
The Polish wood industry, a crucial sector responsible for 6% of the country’s GDP, is urgently seeking a meeting with Finance Minister Andrzej Domański. Despite the sector’s significant contributions to the state budget, the ministry has so far declined to engage in discussions.
A Key Industry in Decline
Comprising 4,000 companies and employing 350,000 people, the wood industry is vital to Poland’s economy. In 2023, the furniture sector alone contributed nearly 1 billion zł in taxes. However, the industry is facing increasing difficulties, which could lead to declining tax revenues if not addressed.
Pleas for Dialogue Ignored
In a letter dated July 12, 2024, industry representatives outlined their challenges and requested a meeting with Minister Domański. Unfortunately, their request was denied, leaving the industry concerned about its future and the potential financial losses for the country. A follow-up letter was sent on July 29, emphasizing the urgent need for dialogue.
