Centrum Rzeźby Polskiej in Orońsko has been spearheading a groundbreaking national initiative since 2021—its proprietary investment program, “Sculpture in Public Space for Independence.” Financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the program aims to elevate the quality of public spaces by integrating high-quality artistic works and enhancing the aesthetic awareness of decision-makers. The initiative fosters a shift in communal space thinking, fostering best practices for artwork selection. The program has also led to the creation of a “Code of Good Practices for Monument Competitions” and guidelines for selecting, implementing, and maintaining sculptures in shared spaces.
Designed for local government units and cultural institutions, the program has expanded to include NGOs, reflecting immense interest. The ongoing program has already financed 87 sculptures across 41 municipalities, with plans for a new edition in 2024 with a budget of 4 million PLN.
