The election material in question is essentially a promotion of the candidacy of the Vice Chairman of the Civic Platform (PO) for the office of President of the Republic of Poland. In it, Trzaskowski declares that, upon winning the election, he will act as an “ambassador for local government affairs.”
“I would like to ask you to accompany and support me in this campaign. Let us create together the largest local government movement in history, ‘Local Governments Forward,'”
reads Trzaskowski’s campaign material.
The material even includes a website address where individuals can register to support Trzaskowski.
Was the law broken?
According to Szydło, “the leaflet (because, in reality, this is a leaflet, not a ‘letter’) was placed directly on the seats of Oświęcim County councillors in the assembly hall.”
“Regardless of who distributed these leaflets, they violated the law—electioneering is not allowed on the premises of local government offices,”
she emphasized.
She added that “the matter requires an immediate response from the National Electoral Commission (PKW).” However, the question remains—what will the Commission do, given that it has failed to act on the blocking of funds for the largest opposition party despite a Supreme Court ruling?
