“If the president shows up and thinks he’s in charge, he’ll get a rap on the knuckles” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski on the eve of Karol Nawrocki’s inauguration as president. The next day, he shook hands with the new head of state and… invited him to his ministry. Just a few hours later, he proudly presented a bizarre mobile app that counts down the time remaining in the president’s term. “Keyboard warrior…” — internet users mock.
On the day before Karol Nawrocki was sworn in as president, Krzysztof Gawkowski declared that the government was ready to cooperate with the incoming president — but he would have to stick to “one rule.”
“Talk to us, consult with us. Let’s move forward, but don’t try to rule, because in Poland the government governs, not the president. That line must be respected. If the president shows up and thinks he’s in charge, he’ll get a rap on the knuckles,” said the deputy prime minister.
He also added that there are areas “where the president must not interfere.”
Yet just a day later, after President Nawrocki assumed command of the armed forces, the same Gawkowski invited the head of state to… his own ministry.
“Yesterday you were threatening me,” President Nawrocki reminded him, to which the Minister of Digital Affairs responded with a smile:
“You’re welcome to visit my ministry.”
Watch:
The minister’s goodwill lasted less than a day. Today, he showed off an unusual app on his phone — one that counts down the days until the end of Karol Nawrocki’s presidency.
“I’m going to count — because it’ll be over sooner or later,” he said.
