    The Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors in Katowice

    The 11th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors has officially begun in Katowice, organized by the Silesian Philharmonic. The inaugural concert featured the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, showcasing Grzegorz Fitelberg’s monumental symphonic poem, Songs of the Falcon.


    Competition Format and Judging

    The competition, spanning from November 17 to 27, will witness three stages of auditions. An esteemed international jury, led by Patrick Fournillier, renowned conductor and musical director of the Grand Theatre – National Opera in Warsaw, will evaluate participants from 23 countries. The competition, under the honorary patronage of President Andrzej Duda, offers substantial awards, including the prestigious Golden Baton and €20,000 for the winner.

    Celebration of Grzegorz Fitelberg’s Legacy

    This year’s competition, planned with the 70th anniversary of Grzegorz Fitelberg’s passing in mind, emphasizes his contributions to music. The event aims to not only propel young conductors onto the global stage but also promote Polish cultural heritage worldwide.
