The parents of MP Dariusz Matecki extended their gratitude to those who have been demonstrating in front of the Remand Centre in Radom, where the Law and Justice (PiS) politician is currently being held. They thanked the gathered individuals for their dedication and support.
MP Dariusz Matecki (PiS) was detained by officers of the Internal Security Agency on the order of the prosecutor’s office, in connection with an investigation concerning the Justice Fund. The National Public Prosecutor’s Office has brought six charges against the MP, each carrying a potential penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment. The MP has not admitted guilt and has provided extensive testimony. Judge Joanna Włoch ordered that he be placed in custody for two months. He was initially held in Warsaw and later transferred to the hospital ward of the Radom detention centre. Demonstrators gather daily outside the facility to pray together.
In a letter read aloud in front of the detention centre, Anna and Andrzej Matecki wrote candidly: “It is not men of the law who accuse him, but persecutors.”
The letter was read by the director of Matecki’s parliamentary office.
“We promised our son Darek that we would not publicly involve ourselves in his defence, for the sake of our health. We suffer from hypertension and heart problems. Any stress poses a life-threatening risk—and this, above all, is what Darek feared. That is why we are not physically present at the detention centre, but we are with you in spirit. We cannot remain silent when we see what you are doing for our son. We lack words to express our gratitude to each and every one of you,”
they said.
“Your daily presence, your prayers, your encouraging shouts, the patriotic songs you sing—and above all, your noble and beautiful words—these act as a balm upon our suffering souls,”
wrote the parents of the detained PiS MP.
“We are proud of our son.”
“We are proud of our son. He is unwavering in his convictions—unyielding, courageous, and loyal. He is a Polish patriot, a believing and practising Catholic. He has never feared to believe in his ideals and to live according to them (…) They want to silence and destroy him. He had significant outreach on the internet. Thousands watched and listened to him, so a way was found to shut him up,“
they stressed.
