The new National Security Strategy of the United States is a document of fundamental importance to us. Regardless of whether we view its provisions with optimism or quite the opposite, we are concerned – and we should begin a serious debate about it. Meanwhile, the current authorities and the media sold to them are doing the exact opposite. They inundate us with exceptional stupidity and infantile propaganda, while at the same time trying to push ideas that are de facto treason – writes Dawid Wildstein in Gazeta Polska.
The extreme demonization of Trump and the new Security Strategy has a very specific goal. In this narrative, any country in our region that dares to “take advantage” of the opportunities opened precisely by the USA turns out to be – how could it be otherwise – an agent of Putin.
Germany may, we may not
In this way, something that could be a gigantic opportunity for Poland (and a weakening for Berlin) – namely, tightening bilateral relations with the USA in order to strengthen our position and thus our security – is drowned out by screams (in reality devoid of any semantics whatsoever) about the “need for EU unity,” etc. The perfidy of this entire situation is compounded by the fact that Berlin itself is also playing the bilateral card with the USA, while simultaneously torpedoing all other EU states in this regard. Among other things, this is what caused the “Obama reset.” It was based on the recognition that, in fact, only German interests count in the EU. Since we are already touching on the issue of the reset from more than a decade ago, it is worth noting that from our perspective – regardless of how much the new US Security Strategy may concern us – we are in a much better position than during Obama’s presidency. This only demonstrates the degree of hypocrisy of part of our authorities (and the circles aligned with them) and the cynicism of their propaganda. The cherry on top was the recent statement on this matter by Chancellor Merz, who said that Germany is open to bilateral relations with the United States and that this is a desirable situation for them. One can be certain that these words were followed by wagonloads of money, that Berlin is already using every available means, the sharpest political lobbying, to win over the current US administration. What are our politicians doing at this moment? Competing over who can write the stupidest and most insulting tweet toward those governing in the United States.
Let us note, however, that with the benefit of hindsight this populist political infantilism is beginning to look like a game that constitutes a very serious betrayal of the Polish raison d’état. A document appears with a concrete proposal from Washington, yet the government’s only response consists of insulting tweets. Then Germany itself comes forward with precisely that proposal which smiling Poland “failed to notice.” It is hard not to connect the dots. Poland is meant to be perceived as a German rat terrier yapping at the USA, a state unreliable as an ally for the United States.
The perfect Union, the terrifying America
The anti-American narrative of the current authorities and their media, since its main purpose is to protect Berlin’s interests, has been combined with the most crude, downright primitive pro-EU propaganda. Thus the European Union is presented as a land flowing with milk and honey, an almost ideal construct, the opposite of a monstrous, collapsing America. Examples of this kind of infantile babble include the successive statements of a certain Jakub Wiech (of course, Wiech himself, despite his considerable reach, is not important, but thousands like him have become active, including politicians of the ruling camp repeating the same message and “arguments”). In response to American criticism of the EU, he throws out stories about how good the food is in Europe, unlike in those terrible States, and how safe it is here. This second element is “amusing” in that Wiech and those like him conveniently omit the fact that the EU is a heterogeneous entity, and that one of the reasons for relatively decent security statistics is that some EU states have put up firm resistance to Brussels’ pro-migration ideas.
Even more important, however, is the fact that this infantile and dishonest propaganda omits the very core of American criticism. It “fails to notice” that over recent decades the most important state of this construct armed Putin and created his power, led through idiotic decisions to massive energy dependence on Russia – from which we are still emerging – and destabilized the entire continent through ill-considered decisions on migration.
Finally – that immediately after Trump’s election, Germany adopted the most extreme anti-American language and insulted him – either directly or through its lackeys, such as Tusk. In this context, the expressions of outrage that Washington uses analogous language to describe the EU sound exceptionally absurd.
Returning to Wiech – this particular commentator is too intelligent to speak openly about the true task of the propagandistic nonsense he produces; fortunately, we have columnists from “GW” and Tygodnik Powszechny. They speak directly about what our response to this “blow” from the USA should be.
Namely, we should accept extreme federalization of the Union and essentially melt into a single organism, which is supposed to be our last line of defense against Russia.
Poland must know its place in the ranks
The “necessity of federalization” is legitimized by propaganda that is just as primitive and infantile as that which speaks of the “ideal Union.” We are told that there is actually little that distinguishes us from Germany, that we can become part of a single political organism, that (this is an authentic quote from a certain smiling columnist) looking at history, we actually had almost ideal relations, perhaps apart from “a few problems.” Leaving aside the fact that this – historically speaking – is simply nonsense, let us note another absolutely fundamental falsehood of this propaganda. There will be no “union,” no “melting” within a single political organism, for the simple reason that this is the last thing Berlin is interested in. There will be no solidarity, no partnership. In a future federalized Europe, if this nightmare ever comes to pass, Poles will remain Poles when it comes to their inferior status. In fact, that is precisely the purpose of this federalization – to ensure that Poland and other states of the region never reach Germany’s status.
Moreover, Berlin shows us our place in the ranks, both present and future, at virtually every step. First, there is the already cited declaration by Merz regarding bilateral Berlin-Washington relations. Second, even more tellingly, we have been – in an almost ostentatious manner – excluded from subsequent talks on what the Union’s policy toward Russia should look like and what the future of Ukraine and our region is to be. Perhaps the strongest example of how Berlin understands that much-vaunted “solidarity” praised by the authorities’ propaganda media is the rubber-stamping of the migration pact. Poland, contrary to Tusk’s lies, was not excluded from it; only our obligations resulting from the implementation of these provisions were temporarily suspended. However, the mechanism that is mortally dangerous for us, enabling the blackmail of our state, has remained. The most amusing thing, albeit in a grim way, is that even if the babble of eurocrats and their lackeys regarding Trump (let us remember that similar nonsense is also repeated by Braun and part of the Confederation) were true, it would be an argument for a completely different stance than the one they are trying to persuade us to adopt. Since there is no chance, at least for the coming years, of creating any real, effective defense alliance with any state other than the United States, all the more should we do everything to win the USA over.
