“This event shows that the Brussels debate on the rule of law increasingly allows only one politically correct narrative. When the voice of Polish lawyers, documenting facts and abuses of power, is silenced, Europe ceases to be a space for the free exchange of ideas,” emphasized the association Lawyers for Poland (Prawnicy dla Polski). This was the organization’s response to the withdrawal by the European Parliament of its invitation to judges who were to speak about the unlawful actions of Waldemar Żurek.
European Parliament withdrew the invitation for Polish judges. They were to speak about Żurek’s lawlessness
The European Parliament revoked its invitation to judges from the association Lawyers for Poland. They were scheduled to present the findings of a report titled “Quo vadis, Żurek. Between Madness and Totalitarianism – the Actions of Waldemar Żurek as the Alleged Minister of Justice.” As the organization noted in a statement, the report was prepared for an international audience “to present in a factual and honest way the reality of the dramatic deterioration of the rule of law in Poland after Waldemar Żurek assumed the office of Minister of Justice.”
“The withdrawal of the invitations for Supreme Court judge Prof. Paweł Czubik – a board member of the association Lawyers for Poland – and judge Prof. Kamil Zaradkiewicz by the European Parliament, after it became known that they intended to discuss the content of our report, is a disturbing example of suppressing freedom of speech in the very heart of the European Union,” the statement reads.
According to the association, “this event shows that the Brussels debate on the rule of law increasingly allows only one politically correct narrative.”
“When the voice of Polish lawyers, documenting facts and abuses of power, is silenced – not for substantive reasons but for political ones – Europe ceases to be a space for the free exchange of views and becomes an arena of ideological control,” the association assessed.
It added that the publication presented “a number of documented cases of violations of the constitutional principles of the rule of law.” These included:
“doubts concerning the effective appointment of Waldemar Żurek as Minister of Justice on July 24, 2025,
the instrumental dismissal of presidents and vice presidents of common courts,
manual control of the judiciary through the issuance of the regulation of September 29, 2025, which violated the principle of random case assignment and the right to a court,
threats and attempts to intimidate judges of the Supreme Court.”
The organization stressed that “special attention was also given to the attempt to ideologically justify the breaking of the law by Minister Waldemar Żurek based on the so-called Radbruch formula – a dangerous relativization of law that in Europe’s history was used to justify authoritarianism.”
“Today’s publication is not only a legal analysis but also a manifesto in defense of freedom of speech and honest debate on the rule of law. Despite attempts at political pressure and selective censorship, the truth – documented and proven – has been published today,” the association declared.
