Should the scandal surrounding South Hospital cost Rafał Trzaskowski his position? The latest United Surveys by IBRiS poll shows that more than half of Poles believe the Mayor of Warsaw should resign. However, the results vary significantly depending on respondents’ political preferences.
The scandal surrounding South Hospital has raised questions about the political future of Rafał Trzaskowski, the current Mayor of Warsaw. So far, two deputy mayors have left City Hall – Renata Kaznowska and Aldona Machnowska-Góra.
The opposition is demanding further resignations at higher levels. Nevertheless, politicians from Civic Platform (KO) argue that there are no grounds for Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski or other senior figures in the party, particularly within its Warsaw structures, to bear political responsibility.
Poles Want Trzaskowski to Resign
As part of the latest IBRiS survey, conducted for Wirtualna Polska, respondents were asked: “Do you believe Rafał Trzaskowski should resign as Mayor of Warsaw in connection with the South Hospital scandal?”
More than half of those surveyed believe Trzaskowski should step down as the capital’s mayor. Overall, 51.2 percent of respondents supported his resignation – including 38.1 percent who answered “definitely yes” and 13.1 percent who chose “rather yes.”
By contrast, 41.1 percent opposed his resignation. Within that group, 22.3 percent answered “definitely no,” while 18.8 percent selected “rather no.” Another 7.7 percent responded “don’t know” or “hard to say.”
A Clear Divide Between Political Camps
The survey results reveal a sharp split based on political affiliation. Among voters supporting the governing coalition – Civic Platform (KO), New Left, Polish People’s Party (PSL), and Polska 2050 Party – only 9 percent believe Rafał Trzaskowski should resign. A clear majority, 85 percent, oppose his resignation, while 6 percent expressed no opinion.
A very different picture emerges among supporters of the opposition – Law and Justice (PiS), Together (Razem), Confederation, and KKP. In this group, as many as 82 percent believe the Mayor of Warsaw should step down. Only 6 percent oppose his resignation, while 12 percent were undecided.
The United Surveys by IBRiS poll for Wirtualna Polska was conducted between June 26 and 28, 2026, using the CAWI/CATI methodology on a representative sample of 1,000 respondents.
