“Put Your Heads in a Bucket of Cold Water.” Strong Appeal to End the Dispute Within Law and Justice (PiS)

The dispute within Law and Justice (PiS), which led to the departure of several dozen MPs associated with Mateusz Morawiecki’s Development Plus association, is showing no signs of easing. On the contrary – politicians from both sides have been stepping up their public attacks on one another. Joachim Brudziński has now weighed in, calling for unity and restraint.

The deadline set by the party leadership for MPs affiliated with Mateusz Morawiecki’s Development Plus association expired on Thursday. On Friday, Jarosław Kaczyński announced that several dozen lawmakers had decided to leave Law and Justice (PiS). Since then, politicians from both camps have been exchanging increasingly harsh remarks on social media and during television appearances.

MEP Joachim Brudziński of Law and Justice (PiS) published a lengthy post on X, urging the entire political right to reflect on the situation. “Today, everyone on the right should take to heart the words from the first reading and, like Solomon, pray for wisdom,” Brudziński wrote, referring to the biblical king.

Brudziński did not hide his criticism of the way the dispute has been unfolding in public. “Instead of disappointing our voters with the kind of squabbling (to Donald Tusk’s delight) that has been visible over the past few days on social media profiles and in TV programs, some of us should not only take a sip of cold water, as Chairman Jarosław Kaczyński urged, but rather put our heads in a bucket of cold water before it’s too late and we dig such deep trenches that not even the Pope and the Dalai Lama could help,” the politician wrote, using a vivid metaphor to underscore the threat the conflict poses to the unity of the right-wing camp.

Brudziński’s post was a direct reference to an earlier appeal by Law and Justice (PiS) Chairman Jarosław Kaczyński, who had urged party politicians to cool their emotions. Brudziński, however, went a step further, suggesting that simply “taking a sip of cold water” might no longer be enough, given the intensity of the mutual attacks that have appeared in recent days both on social media and on television.
