Vandalism of the Polish consulate in Brussels. Vulgar slogans and animal excrement at the entrance

The building of the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brussels was splashed with red paint and covered with vulgar slogans in Polish. At the entrance to the consulate, the word “killers” appeared – “zabójcy”. The case is being investigated by the Brussels police.

The entrance to the Polish consulate, located on a side street in the Etterbeek district in the south-eastern part of the city, was doused with red paint. The Polish coat of arms above the entrance door was also damaged, and on the plaque indicating that the building is the seat of the consulate, the perpetrators wrote the word “killers”, meaning “zabójcy”.

The wall also bore the Polish slogan “J*ć mur”**, as well as other vulgar messages targeting the EU agency responsible for borders, Frontex, and calling for the opening of borders. These – as learned by the Polish Press Agency (PAP) – were written in “broken” English.

In front of the entrance – as reported by rmf24.pl – animal excrement was allegedly scattered.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ) confirmed the incident.

“On Thursday, slogans of an explicitly political nature appeared on the facade of the building of the consular section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brussels, aimed at the security of Poland and the European Union” – said the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ), Maciej Wewiór. He informed that the matter had been reported to the relevant services.

The incident occurred during the night from Thursday to Friday. At that time, Brussels was hosting a summit of EU leaders devoted mainly to financing Ukraine, and the city was swept by farmers’ protests against the trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur countries. Protesters, among other things, scattered potatoes on the streets, threw firecrackers, and burned tires at Luxembourg Square in front of the European Parliament; some demonstrators vandalized one of the Parliament’s buildings, and police used water cannons against them.

The attack on the Polish consulate is being handled by the Belgian police. As reported by RMF FM, which was the first to break the story, secured CCTV footage shows three or four masked perpetrators vandalizing the building and a person filming the incident with a phone.

The paint and slogans have already been removed.
