At the XXXIII Economic Forum in Karpacz, Magdalena Okulowska, President of the Wrocław Agglomeration Development Agency (ARAW), highlighted the economic strength of the Wrocław region, attributing its success to the diversity of businesses and the innovative environment fostered by 30 local universities.
Founded in 2005, ARAW is a company owned by the City of Wrocław and 32 surrounding municipalities. Its mission is to attract foreign investors, which has played a pivotal role in job creation and regional economic growth. According to Okulowska, the agency has successfully secured 260 major investment projects, creating nearly 130,000 jobs since its inception.
One of the most significant recent investments in the region is Intel’s new factory, expected to generate 2,000 new jobs and establish a new value chain in the semiconductor sector. This investment further underscores Wrocław’s reputation as Poland’s Silicon Valley. According to Startup Poland, 28% of the nation’s innovative and tech companies are based in Wrocław and Lower Silesia.
“The strength of Wrocław’s economy lies in its balance between industry, production, and innovative business services. This diversity provided economic resilience, particularly visible during the pandemic,” said Okulowska. She added that Wrocław’s business landscape thrives on innovation, supported by over 100 research and development centres, startups, and higher education institutions.
ARAW continues to play a key role in shaping the region’s future, driving innovation and creating opportunities for both businesses and residents.
