Ziobro on TV Republika: “I Did Not Apply for Asylum in Hungary”

“I didn’t flee Poland; this situation just happened to find me in Hungary. I did not apply for asylum in Hungary,” announced Zbigniew Ziobro during an appearance on Telewizja Republika. The former Minister of Justice was interviewed by Katarzyna Gójska.

The parliamentary rules committee is set to recommend that the Sejm lift the immunity of the former Minister of Justice and PiS MP Zbigniew Ziobro, and grant consent for his detention and temporary arrest.

Ziobro is currently in Budapest, and media outlets had speculated whether he had filed for political asylum in Hungary, similar to MP Marcin Romanowski.

When the former head of the Justice Ministry joined Telewizja Republika live in the evening, Katarzyna Gójska asked him about it directly.

“No. I didn’t flee Poland; this situation just happened to find me in Hungary,” Ziobro replied.

He described the charges brought against him by what he called an “illegal prosecution” as purely political—mocking their absurdity.

“Probably even Kim Jong Il dealt with his political opponents more intelligently. How can anyone bring such a stupid, such an idiotic charge? What is this supposed ‘attempted theft’ supposed to mean—if my intent was for the funds from the Justice Fund to serve the functioning of the Polish prosecutor’s office, which is the institution responsible for prosecuting criminals?” he emphasized.
