The border with Belarus is operating normally so far

According to the information obtained from the Border Guard, the Polish-Belarusian border is currently operating normally, no changes have been made, the spokesman’s office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed on Thursday evening.

On Thursday evening, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that Belarus ‘is forced’ to close its borders with Poland and Lithuania. ‘We are forced to take the troops off the street, put half the army on alert and close the state border in the west. First of all – with Lithuania and Poland,’ Lukashenka said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that at present the Polish-Belarusian border was not closed.

Since August 9, protests have been underway in Belarus against the rigging of the elections, which, according to official results, was won by Alexander Lukashenka with the result of 80.1 per cent. Opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya was supposed to win only 10.1 per cent of the vote, according to the Central Election Commission. Citizens opposing Lukashenka’s regime are being repressed.

Lukashenka said on Wednesday that in recent years the US and its ‘satellites’ in Europe were behind the actions against Belarus and that their goal was a ‘colour revolution’. He included Poland and the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Ukraine are among these countries. In the plan to destabilize Belarus, Poland was to play the role of a ‘media incubator’ and then a platform for alternative authorities in exile.
