Prime Minister and President at the Vistula Spit canal

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki together with President Andrzej Duda visited the construction site of the Vistula Spit canal on Thursday (1 June). This investment is a chance not only for the development of the region but also for the economic growth of the whole country. Ferries, cruise ships and cargo ships will be able to enter the Vistula Lagoon. The region’s accessibility and trade will increase.

In a joint statement, both Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and President Andrzej Duda stressed that the construction of the canal strengthens Poland’s sovereignty. For the first time in the post-war history of our country, it will not be necessary to ask our eastern neighbour for permission to enter the Vistula Lagoon.

    – The Vistula Spit canal is an investment that strengthens the sovereignty of the Republic of Poland; this is its most important role so that we do not have to ask our neighbours whether we can enter the waters of the Vistula Lagoon and the port in Elbląg – said the President of the Republic of Poland.

President Andrzej Duda said that the progress of the investment was very visible.

    – You can see that all the works are running on time. It is certain that as announced, by next year the first vessels will be able to sail through the channel, and by 2023 the investment will be fully completed – he assessed.

    – We were here with the Prime Minister just over a year ago; you can see how much progress has been made in the meantime – he added.

The Vistula Spit is a canal intended to shorten the sea route to the Baltic Sea and facilitate the flow of ships to the port in Elbląg. This is also part of the “Duda Plan – Strategic Investments”. A strong economy and secure jobs – a decade of strategic investments.
