The Polish rescue team, which is currently in Greece, consists of 143 people and 46 specialized vehicles. They are mainly rescuers from Wielkopolskie and Dolnośląskie provinces. The second group of firefighters, which flew to Greece on Monday morning for an exchange, has the same number of people as the first group.
“It is a great honor and privilege for me to be here today and say goodbye to you before the long journey, before the hard work that awaits you,” said Deputy Minister Maciej Wąsik to the officers of the National Fire Service during a briefing before their departure to Greece. The event was also attended by BG Andrzej Bartkowiak, the Chief Commandant of the State Fire Service.
The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration pointed out that the Greek side had asked for an extension of assistance in fighting the fires. “The Greeks have asked for a two-week extension to the mission, but I think you can do it faster. I hope your return to Poland will be quicker. I wish you that and may St. Florian guide you safely on the Greek roads,” he said.
