Iga Świątek advanced to the second round of the Australian Open Grand Slam tournament, defeating British qualifier Harriet Dart 6:3, 6:0. The tennis player from Raszyn will now face Rebecca Peterson from Sweden in Melbourne.
Tuesday’s duel between the ninth-ranked Świątek and 123rd-ranked Dart took place at the Rod Laver Arena, the center court of the Melbourne Park complex.
It was the first time the 20-year-old Pole had faced a British woman who was five years older.
It was also the Grand Slam debut of the 2020 French Open winner under coach Tomasz Wiktorowski.
