Iga Świątek and Magdalena Fręch in the third round of Wimbledon. Iga had unexpected problems but eventually defeated Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove 6:4, 4:6, 6:3, while Magdalena confidently defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6:4, 6:4.
Świątek needed just over two hours to defeat Kerkhove. The start, however, was surprising. Already in the third game, Pattinama Kerkhove broke Świątek’s serve and went into a 2:1 lead. In response, Iga speeded up the action and immediately made up losses. The Dutchwoman continued her brave and effective attacks but Iga was better.
In the second game, the game-by-game battle continued. Świątek served well, but there were mistakes in her forehand strokes. The breakthrough had to wait until the seventh game. The Polish player lost serve for the third time in the match and lost 3:4. The favourite had to work hard again, but the gap grew, exactly like Świątek’s frustration. In the end, she lost 4:6.
The final set started better for Swiątek. She broke her opponent’s serve and took a 3:1 lead. Above all, she controlled her nerves and started hitting balls effectively. Eventually, it ended with 6:3.

Magdalena Fręch has advanced to the third round of Wimbledon! The Pole won in great style 6:4, 6:4 against Anna Schmiedlova. It was a fierce encounter with many breakpoints from both sides. In the end, it was the 24-year-old who advanced to the next stage of this Grand Slam tournament, although she had to take a medical break at the start of the second set.
The start belonged to Fręch, who immediately broke her opponent. The second set started in the same way as the previous one – with a breakpoint. Unfortunately, Schmiedlova broke back again and it was 1:1. During that set, the Pole accidentally tripped and had to ask for a medical break to get help from a physiotherapist. Eventually, she decided to continue the game and defeated Schmiedlova.
