Both Iga Świątek and Magdalena Fręch lost today’s matches and did not advance to the fourth round of the tournament. For Iga, this is the first lost match in four months.
Alize Cornet defeated Iga Światek in the third round of Wimbledon. The Polish tennis player’s brilliant series of victories ended at 37 matches.
Iga Światek has made no secret of the fact that she does not feel comfortable on a grass surface, and her previous matches at Wimbledon were not the show of power, for example, from the recent French Open. Iga Świątek’s run of matches won stopped at 37 – the best achievement in women’s tennis in the 21st century.
Iga Świątek (Poland, WTA 1) – Alize Cornet (France, WTA 37) 4-6, 2-6
Simona Halep, the 2019 Champion, defeated Magdalena Fręch. Magdalena Fręch made her first career appearance in the main event on grass courts in London. The Pole achieved the success of a lifetime at Wimbledon by advancing to the third round, but Simona Halep proved to be an impassable barrier.
Fręch, however, is not leaving London yet. The day before, the Pole with Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia had advanced to the 1/8 finals of the doubles.
Magdalena Fręch (Poland) – Simona Halep (Romania) 4-6, 1-6
