Iga Świątek will reach the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the third time this year and the fifth time in her career. The Pole has already improved on her best achievement from New York, where she fell in the fourth round a year ago.
After victories without losing a set against Jasmine Paolini, Sloane Stephens and Lauren Davis, the fourth opponent proved by far the toughest for World No. 1. Jule Niemeier proved that she deserves her place in the TOP 100 in the world. In the end, the Pole won (2:6, 6:4, 6:0).

The next Iga’s rival will be Jessica Pegula. Also for the third time in the season, she will appear in the quarter-finals of a top tournament. So far, she has not been able to get past this stage in a Grand Slam. The 28-year-old has been more successful in doubles play. In singles, she has only won one tournament – in 2019 in Washington.
“Tough one today but I’m proud I did everything I could to prevail. So happy and grateful. QF in NYC,” the Pole concluded on Instagram.
