Warsaw’s Rondo Grafen: A Tribute to Innovation

Honoring scientific innovation, Warsaw’s Rondo, situated near the Metro Młociny interchange, has been named “Grafen” this Tuesday.

    Initiative by Łukasiewicz Research Network:
The initiative to name the roundabout after graphene was propelled by the Łukasiewicz Research Network Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics, actively engaged in graphene research for nearly a decade.

Piotr Guzdek, Director of the Institute, expressed that naming the roundabout Grafen reflects their vision for the country’s scientific growth. He emphasized the promotional role of this initiative in highlighting the potential of graphene.

Graphene, discovered in 2004 and later awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics, possesses remarkable properties. It is lightweight, flexible, conducts electricity and heat efficiently, making it a promising material in materials engineering and nanotechnology.

Comprising a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb lattice, graphene’s two-dimensional structure offers vast potential for innovation and application across various industries.
