Judge Tomasz Szmydt, previously disciplined for sending inappropriate messages to a journalist, is once again under scrutiny. This time, the allegations involve not only improper conduct but also political defection to Belarus, where he is said to have praised the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
Disciplinary spokesperson of the Supreme Administrative Court (NSA), Judge Zdzisław Kostka, initiated the proceedings on May 7, 2024, against Szmydt, a judge at the Warsaw Administrative Court (WSA). These new allegations mark a troubling pattern of behavior by Szmydt, who has been known to cause problems in the past.
Previously, from March 28 to August 27, 2019, Szmydt was accused of engaging in inappropriate behavior towards a female journalist. He reportedly attempted to entangle the journalist in ambiguous relationships and sent her unsolicited correspondence, including cheap compliments and videos with clear sexual undertones. Although initial accusations suggested elements of stalking, the court later ruled that his actions did not constitute stalking.
Despite the controversy, Szmydt was found guilty of the charges against him and was reprimanded on February 25, 2022. The decision was upheld on September 28, 2022.
