Polish Graphic Artist Wins at “Alter Ego” Contest in the U.S.

Polish artist Anna Szkobodzińska wins the “Alter Ego” contest in the U.S. with her linocut “NGC 1027.”

Anna Szkobodzińska, a graduate in graphic design from the Faculty of Architecture at Białystok University of Technology, won the student category in the “Alter Ego” competition in the U.S. Her awarded linocut “NGC 1027” is part of her thesis, created under the supervision of Dr. Tomasz M. Kukawski. The piece is currently displayed in New York at The BLANC Art Space and is also used for promoting the exhibition on social media.

“I had the opportunity to submit two works, and one was selected for the ‘Alter Ego’ exhibition,” said Szkobodzińska. Both linocuts were part of her bachelor’s graphic thesis “Open Clusters,” which included six linocuts and 40 smaller monotypes. “It took a lot of time to complete, but it was worth it,” she noted.

Szkobodzińska’s unique style was encouraged by Dr. Kukawski, who urged her to enter the contest. Additionally, she was selected for the graphic biennale in Romania along with other students. Another student, Ewa Kozłowska, will participate in the biennale in Taiwan.

Graduating in April 2024, Szkobodzińska credits her high school teacher, Leszek Jawor, for encouraging her to pursue graphic design. During her studies, she found workshop graphics particularly fascinating, fueling her passion for various techniques. She recommends the program to anyone seeking fulfillment in the arts.
