Wieluń – a symbol of the aggression of the Third Reich against Poland

Wieluń is one of the places-symbols of the aggression of the Third Reich against Poland in 1939, recalled the presidential minister Wojciech Kolarski. This year it was in Wieluń in the Łódź voivodeship where Polish President Andrzej Duda commemorated the outbreak of World War II.

The 82nd anniversary of the outbreak of World War II falls on Wednesday. It was the largest and bloodiest war in the history of mankind, in which Poland suffered relatively the greatest losses and demographic damage among all the fighting and occupied countries.

“Wieluń is the place which is a symbol of the aggression of the Third Reich against Poland in 1939 and the tragedy of the Second World War,” said Kolarski, emphasizing that “President Duda’s consistent policy has meant that for several years the awareness of what happened in Wieluń is no longer just the knowledge that we Poles have”.

In this context, he recalled the 80th celebration anniversary of the outbreak of the war and the bombing of Wieluń, in which, apart from President Duda, also the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, took part. President Duda emphasized then that Polish-German friendship could be built by respecting the mutual history.
