This vibrant festival, blending cultural heritage with modern recreation, draws Lemko communities from around the world each July. With a unique intercultural dialogue spanning Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine, the event was honored by the patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Hanna Wróblewska, and attended by Deputy Minister Marta Cienkowska.

    Highlights of the Festival

This year’s festival focused on Carpathian pastoral traditions, featuring traditional crafts, whip cracking, folk costumes, pastoral musical instruments, and traditional cheese. The event also explored the role of the Lemko man in both historical and contemporary contexts. Performances included a diverse range of music and theatrical acts on the Zdynia amphitheater stage.

    A Historical Overview

Initiated by Władysław Graban and the Łemkowyna Song and Dance Ensemble, Lemko Watra began as artistic workshops in the early 1980s. Evolving from small gatherings into a major festival, it is now organized by the Lemko Union in Zdynia. The festival site includes a 2.5-hectare area with extensive amenities and a mini open-air museum.
