Decisive Police Response to Climate Activists’ Blockade in Warsaw

On Friday, December 13, climate activists from the Last Generation carried out a major blockade in Warsaw, targeting Wisłostrada. Protesters disrupted traffic in both directions near Gdański Bridge, causing temporary paralysis of one of the city’s busiest routes. Their actions aimed to pressure the government into reallocating funds from highways to regional bus and train systems.

    Police Take Swift Action

The police acted decisively, quickly removing activists who had staged a sit-in on a pedestrian crossing. Officers ensured the smooth resumption of traffic and worked to calm frustrated drivers, preventing potential conflicts. Despite this swift response, the activists declared their determination to continue their protests.

In a statement shared on social media, the Last Generation described their actions as necessary in the face of governmental inaction on climate change. They criticized Prime Minister Donald Tusk for failing to engage in dialogue earlier this week, accusing him of ignoring their demands.

    Protests to Intensify

The activists warned of more disruptive actions in the future. Highlighting the urgency of the climate crisis, they vowed to escalate their efforts, drawing attention to what they described as a pivotal moment in history. Their campaign has also garnered support from groups like Women’s Strike and CitizensRP.
