The official announcement of the competition list for the 15th Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, scheduled for August 25, 2024, has been made by the Diamond League authorities. The return of Femke Bol and Armand Duplantis to the Śląskie Stadium marks a historic moment. Marek Plawgo, the event’s communications director, expresses excitement over what he calls the “strongest star announcement in history.”
Following the highly acclaimed 2023 Diamond League, where two world-leading performances were achieved, the bar has been set high for the organizers of the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial. Recently ranked second in the world among World Athletics meetings, the Śląskie Stadium witnessed a spectacular show, drawing the third-largest audience in the series, with 95% rating it as a significant experience, according to Pentagon Research.
Natalia Kaczmarek, a participant in the last edition, shared her thoughts on running at the Śląskie Stadium, expressing honor and recalling her outstanding personal achievement there. Ewa Swoboda, the fastest woman in Poland, also looks forward to the event, reflecting on the electrifying atmosphere and her hope for a repeat performance.
Exciting Competitions Await in 2024
The Diamond League has officially assigned specific events to the host meetings, and the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial will feature competitions where Polish athletes excel globally. The list includes women’s races in the 100m, 400m, and 1500m, as well as the 100m and 400m hurdles, triple jump, and javelin throw. For men, the lineup includes the 200m, 800m, 3000m, 3000m steeplechase, high jump, pole vault, and shot put.
Piotr Małachowski, the event’s sports director, emphasizes the importance of the hammer throw, considering it a highlight of the memorial due to its connection with its patron, Kamila Skolimowska.
Duplantis and Bol Set to Shine Again
Marek Plawgo confirms the presence of Armand Duplantis and Femke Bol in the 2024 edition. Duplantis, the world record holder and current top athlete globally, will attempt historic heights once again. Bol, recently crowned world champion in the 400m hurdles, is known for her phenomenal achievements and will undoubtedly be a star attraction.
