German automotive giant Mercedes-Benz Vans has commenced the construction of a new electric van factory in Jawor, Lower Silesia. The facility, part of the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone “Invest Park,” will transform and expand an existing plant currently producing engines and batteries.
The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone for the brand’s industrial strategy. Since 2019, the Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Poland site in Jawor has produced engines, engine components, and batteries for hybrid vehicles.
The new facility aligns with Mercedes-Benz Vans’ global strategy to enhance production competitiveness in Europe. Francesco Ciancia, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans Operations, highlighted the factory’s role in the company’s shift towards electromobility, stating, “By joining our global production network, the planned factory in Poland underscores our ongoing transformation to make our operations more efficient, flexible, and focused on an electric future.”
From 2026, all newly developed medium and large vans by Mercedes-Benz will be based on the modular VAN.EA (Mercedes-Benz Van Electric Architecture) platform, ensuring premium quality and cutting-edge technology.
Initially announced in December 2022, the project represents an investment of over €1 billion by 2027, creating approximately 2,500 new jobs in Jawor.
