Polish dancers advance to the World Tango Championship semifinals in Buenos Aires, competing in both improvised and stage tango categories.
Over 1,500 dancers from 53 countries are currently competing in the World Tango Championship in Buenos Aires. Among them, Polish pair Jakub Grzybek and Patrycja Cisowska-Grzybek have successfully advanced to the semifinals in the improvised tango category (tango de pista). “This is a great achievement for us,” said Jakub Grzybek.
A Tough Path to the Semifinals
Out of 750 couples participating, only 140 advanced to the semifinals, a stage reserved for the most skilled professionals. “Everyone in the semifinals dances brilliantly. Only true professionals make it this far,” Grzybek noted. Despite receiving high scores from many judges, the Polish dancer remains cautious. “The semifinals are a whole new competition with different judges, so anything can happen,” he added.
The championship, the most prestigious tango tournament globally, is accompanied by concerts, exhibitions, and film screenings. The semifinals are set for the weekend, with the grand finale scheduled for August 27 at the 15,000-seat Movistar Arena.
