Presidential Pardon for Kamiński and Wąsik Sparks Calls for Immediate Release

President Andrzej Duda has officially granted a pardon to Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik, calling for their immediate release from correctional facilities. The decision, announced in a press conference, came after a comprehensive pardon procedure initiated at the request of the two men’s wives.

President Duda Affirms Pardon Decision Despite Obstacles in the Process

President Duda, addressing the media, revealed that the entire pardon process had been diligently conducted, involving the submission of documents and opinions from the Attorney General. The President highlighted that the decision to grant a pardon was made after nearly two weeks of careful consideration.

However, the road to the pardon was not without obstacles. The documents, which were returned from the Ministry of Justice today, included a negative opinion from Attorney General Minister Bodnar regarding the pardons. Despite this, President Duda affirmed the completion of the procedure, stating, “The decision regarding the pardon has been issued. The gentlemen have been pardoned. I confirm this with full force.”

President Duda Urges Swift Pardon Execution, Citing Humanitarian and National Grounds

The President took the opportunity to appeal directly to Minister Bodnar, the Attorney General, for the swift execution of the pardon, emphasizing the urgency of releasing Kamiński and Wąsik, with a particular focus on the health condition of Mariusz Kamiński.

“I appeal for this on humanitarian, human, and national grounds,” President Duda stressed, acknowledging the awkward position in which the Polish state currently finds itself. He continued, “When those who are pursuing the interests of this state, fighting against corruption, are in prison, while those facing corruption charges are heading to the European Parliament due to decisions by their colleagues from the same political class.”

The President’s plea for decency and immediate action on the part of the justice system resonates against the backdrop of a polarized political climate. Before making the official statement, President Duda met with the wives of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik, adding a personal touch to the proceedings.
