The Press Freedom Monitoring Center of the SDP has notified the prosecutor’s office of the possibility that a crime was committed through the use of unlawful threats intended to force a journalist to refrain from press intervention, as well as actions aimed at obstructing and suppressing press criticism. The acts specified in the Press Law would have been committed to the detriment of Piotr Nisztor.

“The above-described statements indicate preparations being made, or at the very least a verbalized consideration by the suspect of committing several criminal acts against the journalist, including unlawful deprivation of liberty and his murder with particular cruelty. In the assessment of CMWP SDP, the described events also meet the criteria of an offense defined in the Press Law,”

one can read in the notification.

“These actions may be perceived not only by the aggrieved journalist, but also by the entire journalistic community, as constituting a real threat to editor Piotr Nisztor, his relatives, and his colleagues,”

CMWP SDP notes in its letter to the prosecutor’s office.

In the notification to the prosecutor, the Center’s director, Jolanta Hajdasz, adds that Piotr Nisztor is a well-known and respected investigative journalist who, through his publications, acts in the public interest by exposing significant events of a corrupt and criminal nature.
