The Extreme Way of the Cross 2023

The Extreme Way of the Cross, also known as the Stations of the Cross, is a religious pilgrimage in Poland commemorating the Passion of Jesus Christ. This pilgrimage is a unique and extreme form of devotion, which takes place in various locations throughout Poland, including Szczyrk, Jaworzno, Poznań, and many more cities.

EDK breaks out of the schemes. It lets you change.

Walking 40km at night, be out of your comfort zone (e.g. sleep)

The Extreme Way of the Cross is a pilgrimage that involves walking long distances while carrying a heavy cross. This pilgrimage can last up to several days and requires participants to undertake difficult physical and mental challenges along the way. The pilgrimage is not for the faint of heart, as it can be physically grueling and emotionally demanding.

It was established in 2009. The idea was a response to the crisis of masculinity and the crisis of consumerism. EDK does not please, but it requires. It suggests going beyond your own limits.

Participants in the Extreme Way of the Cross follow a path that leads them through a series of 14 stations, each representing a moment in Christ’s journey to the cross. At each station, pilgrims stop to pray and reflect on the meaning of that particular moment in Christ’s journey. The stations are marked by crosses, statues, or other religious symbols that serve as reminders of the sacrifices made by Jesus Christ.

During the Extreme Way of the Cross, pilgrims are encouraged to embrace the physical and emotional challenges of the journey as a form of penance and sacrifice. This pilgrimage is a way for participants to deepen their faith, and to connect with the suffering of Jesus Christ. By taking part in this pilgrimage, participants demonstrate their commitment to their faith, and their willingness to endure hardship and suffering for the sake of that faith.

The Extreme Way of the Cross is a deeply spiritual experience that is highly valued by many Polish Catholics. It is a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit, and a reminder of the power of faith to sustain us through difficult times. Whether one participates in the pilgrimage or observes it from a distance, the Extreme Way of the Cross is a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of Jesus Christ and the role of faith in our lives.
