MEPs stressed in the resolution adopted on Friday that the Sejm supports the creation of a Special Tribunal for crimes of aggression against Ukraine.

“The Sejm, therefore, supports measures aimed at punishing the perpetrators and initiatives in this regard, such as the establishment of the Special Tribunal for Crimes of Aggression against Ukraine and the establishment of the International Centre for the Prosecution of Crimes of Aggression against Ukraine, which will take care of the proper preservation of evidence,”

MEPs indicated in the adopted resolution.

The Sejm recognised that the armed assault by the Russian Federation on Ukraine “is an act of aggression which, by its nature, gravity and scale, constitutes a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations and a crime of aggression”.

The MPs in the resolution stressed that the prosecution of the perpetrators of the crimes committed in and against Ukraine is essential to show that international law does not allow impunity and that individual criminal responsibility can also be borne by state leaders.
