“This Is Some Kind of Complete Paranoia.” Morawiecki Responds to Allegations Over Coal Purchases

“This is some kind of complete paranoia. They have this ability to shift their own guilt onto someone else’s conscience,” said former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, commenting on the decision by the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves (RARS) to file a notification with the prosecutor’s office regarding coal purchases made in 2022. The Law and Justice (PiS) politician defended his government’s actions during the energy crisis.

Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki addressed the announcement by the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves that it would file a notification concerning the possibility of a crime in connection with coal purchases in 2022.

“At that time, people were running out of coal. We were importing coal from every possible direction around the world. And no one froze during the winter. I cannot say the same about this winter, because I know that people froze to death,” Morawiecki said.

The former prime minister added that pellet fuel is currently in short supply in many parts of Poland and assessed that the government’s actions are “an attempt to divert public attention from the tragedy of pellet shortages and the high prices of pellets and heating.”

“They have already been in power for more than two years and only now have they realized that there is coal sitting in stockpiles. This is some kind of complete paranoia. They have this ability to shift their own guilt onto someone else’s conscience,” he said.

He also added:

“I have one piece of advice: the minister (Kierwiński – ed.) should really come to his senses and stop constructing such absurdities. I am convinced that Poles have their own judgment and will not be fooled by this.”

In a recording published on X, the former prime minister stated: “Kierwiński and Tusk, instead of ensuring warmth in citizens’ homes, prefer to reach into the past and distort it.”

“Our successors did nothing for two and a half years with the surplus that remained after that major, successful operation, and now they want to shift responsibility for their own negligence onto us,” Morawiecki emphasized.
