    Tragic Car Accident in Krakow Claims Four Lives

    Krakow, July 15, 2023 – A devastating car accident occurred in Krakow today around 3 a.m., resulting in the loss of four lives. The victims were all residents of the Wielicki district, aged between 20 and 24. Police and the prosecutor’s office have launched an investigation to determine the cause of this tragic incident.

    The incident took place on Aleja Krasińskiego, as the driver of a Renault Megane was heading towards Most Dębnicki. Suddenly, the driver lost control of the vehicle, colliding with road-narrowing poles and crossing the intersection in the opposite direction. The car then struck a traffic light pole and a street lamp before flipping over and descending the stairs to Bulwar Czerwieński. There, it collided with a concrete pedestrian walkway wall.

    Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene. Firefighters extricated the injured from the wreck, and paramedics attempted resuscitation. Tragically, all four men inside the vehicle lost their lives.

    In the aftermath of the accident, the police and the prosecutor’s office conducted an on-site inspection, securing street surveillance footage and interviewing eyewitnesses, particularly pedestrians who were in the vicinity at the time of the crash. Blood samples will be collected from the deceased driver for alcohol testing.

    The circumstances and causes of the accident will be thoroughly investigated under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Krakow – Krowodrza. The surveillance footage of the car’s journey will be analyzed along with other pieces of evidence by traffic experts to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.

    On July 15, 2023, the District Prosecutor of Krakow – Krowodrza, issued a decision to launch an investigation into intentional violations of traffic safety regulations and unintentional causing of the accident on July 15, 2023, in Krakow, by the driver of the Renault vehicle, namely Patryk P. Addressing media reports suggesting that someone else was driving the car, the prosecutor’s office asserts that all findings point to Patryk P. being behind the wheel. This conclusion is based on identification procedures at the scene, photographic material, and street surveillance footage showing Patryk P. getting into the driver’s seat shortly before the accident.
