Waldemar Żurek will, after all, pay a fine for what he did a few days ago during an interview on a YouTube channel. Let us recall that while driving during the program “Duży w maluchu” (literally: “Big Guy in a Little Car”) through the streets of Kraków, Żurek nearly hit a pedestrian who stepped onto a crosswalk. The minister, unfazed, forced the right of way and drove on, commenting that “she was far away”.
It turned out, however, that the pedestrian was not far away at all, and what Minister Żurek did constitutes an offense punishable by a heavy fine.
For nearly a week, the police examined whether the minister had violated traffic regulations by failing to yield to a pedestrian at a crosswalk. This is all the more strange given that there is full video footage of the incident, which clearly explains everything.
On Monday morning, the Małopolska police informed on platform X that officers from the Kraków City Police Headquarters had determined that an offense had been committed in the case, and that Minister Żurek had agreed to waive his immunity and accept a fine.
“There are no sacred cows. This applies to me as well,” the minister emphasized. As he added, everyone makes mistakes – “What matters is reflection and an apology.” Public figures should set an example in such situations, Żurek stressed.
The police had earlier stated that if a driver is confirmed to have failed to yield to a pedestrian on a crosswalk, they face a fine of 1,500 zlotys and 15 penalty points.
