    Polish presidential couple visiting Italy

I hope for the intensification of Polish-Italian relations and economic cooperation between both countries, President Andrzej Duda said on Thursday. The Presidential Couple visited the Monte Cassino cemetery, where they paid tribute to the fallen Polish soldiers.

President Andrzej Duda and First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda went on Thursday to the Monte Cassino War Cemetery, where they took part in a ceremony commemorating the fallen Polish soldiers. The president emphasized in a later briefing that the visit falls in the year in which we celebrate the 76th anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino. As he noted, due to the pandemic, it was not possible to come to this place in May, exactly when that anniversary fell.

“It is also a special year, because it marks the 50th anniversary of the death of General Władysław Anders, commander of the 2nd Polish Corps, who fought here together with his soldiers and was buried at this cemetery,” the president said.

He expressed his satisfaction that he could pay tribute to Anders, and earlier unveil a monument commemorating the General at the Polish embassy in Rome. As he emphasized, General Anders was a great son of Poland, a great patriot, greatly loved by his soldiers, whom we owe our memory.
