New Polish Cinema is the title of a film review at the prestigious Brooklyn Academy of Music. Starting April 30, American viewers will be able to see the latest works of Polish artists during the week.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) event is a recurring event. Organized in cooperation with the Polish Cultural Institute (IKP) in New York, it attracts Polish film fans every two years. They will now be able to see seven films, including five New York premieres.
“The fourth edition of the review was supposed to be held last year, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was postponed. The shows will open a new streaming platform that BAM is now launching on its website,” said Tomek Smolarski, curator of film and performing arts at the Polish Cultural Institute in New York.
“We try to show movies directed by very well-known Polish artists not only in the country but also abroad. What is more, we want to give a platform to debutants. We will have as many as five feature debuts in this series. One of the criteria for the selection of films is also their premiere status. We present, among others, the Polish candidate for this year’s Oscar “Never Gonna Snow Again” – added Smolarski.
“BAM brings together the best new works from Poland in this series highlighting a new generation of boundary-pushing filmmakers. Presented in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute New York and co-programmed by Tomek Smolarski, this year’s lineup includes a surreal animated feature, a vision of dystopian blood feuds, a poignant drama about a Vietnamese-Polish family, and the New York premiere of Poland’s Oscar submission Never Gonna Snow Again”.
