Six Polish ski jumpers took part in Saturday’s World Cup competition in Ruka, Finland. In the qualification the best of them, Kamil Stoch got into 24th position. The winner was Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi. The lack of promotion of Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud is a surprise.
Ryoyu Kobayashi, who received 3 000 Swiss francs for the win, showed the longest jump of the day with 147 m and reached 168.6 points, 8.6 points ahead of Austrian Daniel Huber (141.5 m). The third place went to German Pius Paschke with a loss of 13.9 points (138.5 m). Kamil Stoch jumped on 125.5 m and finished 36.4 points behind Kobayashi.
“The jump was too late, I missed the distance”, the three-time Olympic champion admitted in a statement to Eurosport.
Apart from Stoch, they qualified for Saturday’s competition but from distant 37th positions. Andrzej Stękała (126 m), 38. Piotr Żyła (121 m), 42. Jakub Wolny (124 m), 48. Dawid Kubacki (114 m) and the 50th was Aleksander Zniszczoł(114.5 m). Stefan Hula (116 m) went out since he took the 52nd position.
Zniszczoł unexpectedly secured his right to take part in the competition at the expense of Granerud. The defending champion, who won the Crystal Ball last Sunday in Nizhny Tagil, jumped on 111.5 m and finished only in 53rd position.
