Polish students have designed a program to reorganize the entire public transport system in Abu Dhabi. Their solution, which enables faster access to the farthest reaches of the UAE metropolis, was awarded in the global Open Data Addathon competition organized by Abu Dhabi Digital Authorities.
The students made their project as part of the global Open Data Addathon competition organized by Abu Dhabi Digital Authorities in December 2021, the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology at the Warsaw University of Technology told PAP (Polish Press Agency).
As part of this competition, international teams consisting of students, scientists, or representatives of IT companies had to propose an innovative solution for the metropolis of the future based on 2500 available data sets. Particularly welcome were ideas that could solve at least one of the key problems of today’s cities – excessive levels of pollution, reliability of energy supply, transportation efficiency, or broadly defined safety.
Participants in the computer science competition had just two weeks to transform the information they received into useful output, define the problem, design a solution, and present a prototype of the solution, the faculty at the Warsaw University of Technology reported.
Students from the Interdepartmental Scientific Circle of Warsaw University of Technology SMART CITY, Electronics and Information Technologies Faculty of Warsaw University of Technology, and Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology DATA SCIENCE CLUB took second place in this competition.
They designed an application that allows optimizing the schedule of public transport stops so as to reduce the time of travel by public transport between the most important points of Abu Dhabi – one of the largest cities in the United Arab Emirates.
