Aristegui Noticias informed that the exhibition ‘The Mystery Man‘, promoted by ArtiSplendore and inaugurated this Thursday at the Salamanca Cathedral shows the hyperrealistic body of Jesus Christ recreated from the Holy Shroud.
The sculpture, weighing 75 kilos, is made of latex with silicone and have used human hair. “It’s not real, but the appearance is human,” said the exhibition’s artistic director, Álvaro Blanco, stressing that the work is stripped of influences from artistic movements.
Álvaro Blanco stressed that, starting this Friday, visitors will be able to place themselves “before Jesus” because have recreated “the most reliable body and in hyperrealistic quality”, and does not rule out that it generates “controversy“.
“Yesterday when we placed the body it was before Jesus, before the image of Jesus, you will have the opportunity to feel that you are before the reflection of his work without any interpretation,” he indicated, while adding that “the controversy will also be served to some” because it is “something that no one had dared to do” until now.
In the exhibition, visitors will be able to see the volumetric recreation of the body that could have wrapped the Shroud of Turin. The exhibition will open to the public this Friday at the Cathedral of Salamanca, where it will remain until December and, later, will travel the five continents.

Throughout 600 square meters located in the retrochoir of the New Cathedral, visitors will go through several rooms on the figure of Jesus of Nazareth; about his condemnation and death through various objects, such as the cross or the 30 coins of Judas, and on the Shroud itself.
The Holy Shroud, preserved in Turin, also known as the Shroud, is a herringbone woven linen twill measuring 430 x 110 centimeters.
It is a relic of the Christian faith that is credited with having wrapped the body of Jesus Christ after his death.
In it appears, although somewhat blurred, the imprint of a man with signs of torture that would coincide with the data that spread the gospel stories: the crowning with thorns, scourging, crucifixion and thrown in the side. On the left it shows the frontal view, and on the right the dorsal part. Time also left its mark on the burns sustained by the fabric in a fire that nearly destroyed the fabric.
To make the hyper-realistic sculpture, the artists who worked on the project started from the measurements of the body, 1.78 meters tall, and have been based on the points bleeding feet, legs or knees, among others.
During the presentation, this Thursday, the Bishop of Salamanca, Joseph Louis Retanastressed that the exhibition reveals “an exact sample of the body of Jesus.”
For his part, the mayor of Salamanca, Carlos García, acknowledged that he was “a little scared” by what they were going to discover this Thursday and highlighted the “magnificent work” of those responsible for the exhibition.
