Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has announced that the government will appeal to the European Commission to investigate whether Ukrainian imports are in violation of the European Union’s single market.
At a press conference on Friday, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that the country is extending its list of protected foods to include poultry, eggs, and dairy products, as well as the possibility of edible oil.
“Our partners from countries bordering Ukraine have suggested this product – it is not our proposal,”
he said.
The European Commission (EC) has condemned Poland’s temporary ban on imports of Ukrainian food, imposed in mid-April, as a violation of the single market rules. The ban, which has been met with protests from Polish farmers, was implemented amid claims that the imports have been driving down prices of domestic produce, particularly grain.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has declared that Poland is making progress towards its goal of banning the imports of grain, maize and rapeseed into the European Union.
Polish Prime Minister stated that should European regulations become available, Poland would be willing to adopt them in exchange for its own regulations.
“We want to thoroughly verify the impact those products have had on the Polish market over the past several months as well as the risks of destabilising the Polish market in the future,”
Morawiecki said.
