In this weekend’s Short Track World Cup in Seoul, Kamila Stormowska came tantalizingly close to clinching a medal in the 1000-meter final. Despite finishing fourth, Stormowska’s performance showcases her emergence as the leader of the Polish women’s short track team in the absence of Natalia Maliszewska. Stormowska aims for top-ten spots in the overall World Cup standings for both 500 and 1000 meters.
On the longer distance on Saturday, Stormowska navigated through challenges, advancing to the semi-finals after a fall by Suk Hee Shim. Demonstrating resilience, she secured a spot in the A final, racing against the world’s best. Battling fiercely, Stormowska finished fourth, behind Hanne Desmet, Kristen Santos-Griswold, and Xandra Velzeboer.
Stormowska’s strong showing propelled her to seventh place in the World Cup distance classification, amassing 158 points. Meanwhile, Łukasz Kuczyński earned World Cup points, reaching the quarterfinals in the men’s 1000 meters.
In Seoul’s 1500-meter finals, Korea’s Gilli Kim and Park Ji Won emerged victorious in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively.
