Controversial Changes to School Reading Lists

New school reading list excludes John Paul II, Rymkiewicz, and classic epics, sparking debates on cultural education.

    New Censorship in Educational Reading

Minister Nowacka has unveiled a new, heavily censored list of school readings. Key figures such as John Paul II and Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz are notably absent. Iconic works like “Pan Tadeusz” and “The Deluge” will only be read in fragments, raising concerns about the erosion of national consciousness.

    Primary School Adjustments

In primary schools, grades I-III remain unaffected. However, in grades IV-VI, mandatory readings now include titles like “The Hobbit” and “The Chronicles of Narnia”. Notably absent are Polish legends and classic poems by Adam Mickiewicz and Juliusz Słowacki.

    Changes in Higher Grades

For grades VII-VIII, students will study works such as “A Christmas Carol” and “The Little Prince” but will only encounter excerpts from “Quo Vadis” and “Pan Tadeusz”. The high school curriculum is similarly trimmed, with major epics and numerous classic works relegated to optional or fragmentary status.
