Warsaw Zoo Celebrates the Arrival of Pamir, the Snow Leopard Cub

The Warsaw Zoo proudly announces the newest member of its animal family, an adorable male snow leopard cub named Pamir. Born on June 2nd to the doting parents Suri and Jamir, celebrated his six-week birthday last Sunday.

Pamir has shown remarkable growth since his birth, increasing from a tiny 685 grams to a healthy 2560 grams. His first set of sharp teeth has also started to appear, marking a key milestone in his early development. Under the watchful and caring eye of his mother, Suri, who is known for her exceptional nurturing, Pamir is thriving within the safety of their den.

Pamir’s Journey: Growing, Exploring, and Preparing for Outdoor Adventures

As he continues to grow, Pamir is gradually exploring his surroundings and becoming more comfortable in his cosy habitat. Before he joins Suri on adventures in the outdoor enclosure, he needs a bit more time to develop. In their natural habitat, snow leopard cubs typically begin following their mothers outdoors at around three months of age. The zoo will keep the public informed on Pamir’s progress and announce when visitors can see him exploring the outdoor space with Suri.

The Birth of Pamir: A Milestone for Warsaw Zoo and Snow Leopard Conservation

The birth of any animal at the Warsaw Zoo is a joyful event, but the arrival of Pamir is particularly significant. Snow leopards are classified as Vulnerable (VU) by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with approximately 4,000 individuals remaining in their natural habitats across the Himalayas, the Tibetan Plateau, and the mountains of Central Asia. In zoos worldwide, only about 400 snow leopards are found.
