The Sausage King Who Leads Djurgardens: Roberth Bjoerknesjoe’s Unusual Journey

Football coach and Polish sausage importer Roberth Bjoerknesjoe leads Djurgardens IF in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Roberth Bjoerknesjoe, the newly appointed head coach of Djurgardens IF, has had a unique career path. A former player for Djurgardens IF, he later coached top-tier Brommapojkarna IF and most recently third-division Viggbyholms IK. Now, he steps into a new challenge, leading Djurgardens IF in the UEFA Europa Conference League, including a key match against Legia Warsaw in December.

    A Specialist in Polish Sausages

In 2019, Bjoerknesjoe co-purchased Alexander Grunfeld AB, a Swedish company specializing in importing meats from Eastern Europe. Thanks to his efforts, Polish sausages such as kabanosy and krakowska are now available in nearly every Swedish supermarket. His business generates €3.5 million in annual revenue. Bjoerknesjoe has taken a leave of absence from the company to focus on football, reassuring concerned customers that their beloved Polish sausages will remain on the shelves during his absence.

Djurgardens’ sporting director, Bosse Andersson, praised Bjoerknesjoe for quickly accepting the position, guiding the team through crucial upcoming matches.
