April 7 is World Health Day

World Health Day is celebrated annually on April 7th to raise awareness about global health issues and promote healthy living. The day marks the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948 and provides an opportunity to focus on a specific health theme each year.

Each year, the WHO chooses a theme for World Health Day that highlights a priority area of public health concern. The theme for 2021 was “Building a fairer, healthier world,” which called for action to address health inequities and build a more equitable and resilient health system. The theme for 2022 has not yet been announced.

World Health Day events and activities are organized by governments, non-governmental organizations, and communities around the world. These events may include health fairs, conferences, and health screenings, among others, and aim to raise awareness and encourage action to promote better health for all.

WHO’s 75th anniversary year is an opportunity to look back at public health successes that have improved quality of life during the last seven decades. It is also an opportunity to motivate action to tackle the health challenges of today  ̶  and tomorrow.
