    Magda Linette overcame Maria Camila Osorio winning 6:7 (2), 7:5, 6:2. She advanced to the second round of the WTA hard-court tournament in Merida, Mexico. 

    Magda Linette entered the tournament in Merida, Mexico, as the top seed after her remarkable achievement of making it to the semi-finals of the Australian Open. She faced Colombian Camila Osorio as her first rival.

    The match indicated that Linette could be overtaken by Osorio. The Columbian confidently won the first set following a tie-break. In the second set, the Colombian had a comfortable lead of 5:2 with two breaks.

    Linette was nearly eliminated from the tournament, but she managed to keep going. She successfully defended two match points in the eighth and ninth games. In the second set, she demonstrated great determination and came back from a difficult situation, winning as her opponent made mistakes.

    Linette had total dominance over the third set, taking a 4-0 lead shortly after the start. She only gave up two games in the 2-hour and 41-minute match, giving her a win and allowing her to move to the second round at the Merida tournament.

    The Pole’s opponent in the 1/8 final will be Panna Udvardy on Thursday, who defeated higher-ranked German Jule Niemeier 7:6 (1), 7:6 (5) in the opening round.
