Operation Safe Podlasie: Securing Poland’s Eastern Border Amid New Challenges

Operation Safe Podlasie bolsters Poland’s border security amid rising challenges, involving military support and interagency cooperation.

Since August 1, 2024, Operation “Safe Podlasie” has been actively supporting the Polish Border Guard in safeguarding Poland’s eastern frontier. Despite simultaneous flood recovery efforts, the Polish Armed Forces remain fully committed to this operation. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized the importance of interagency cooperation in ensuring both national security and the well-being of the personnel involved.

Increased Migratory Pressure on the Border

In September, the number of illegal border crossing attempts surged, with over 2,500 cases reported this month alone. This sharp rise highlights the increasing difficulty of maintaining border integrity, with 26,000 attempts already recorded in 2024, matching last year’s total.

    Comprehensive Military Support

Up to 17,000 soldiers are involved in the operation, with the 18th Mechanized Division leading the efforts. Soldiers are assisting the Border Guard and Police in preventing illegal crossings and improving local infrastructure, including repairing roads and supporting medical facilities in nearby regions.
